Pharmacologist by training and known as a malaria scientist, Milijaona mainly works on malaria diagnosis and drug resistance. His areas of research cover currently the Malaria Index Survey in Madagascar, malaria outbreak investigation, monitoring antimalarial drug resistance, quality control of RDT, culturing Plasmodium falciparum isolates and the management of malaria and pneumonia in the community. Milijaona is one of the African scientists creating the Plasmodium Diversity Network Africa (PDNA) as they strive to apply their collective experiences and examples from other networks such as MalariaGEN to create their own network foundations.
