Lucas is an early career researcher who is interested in understanding the human genetic factors that place a person at risk of developing severe malaria, and the genetic factors in Plasmodium falciparum that determine resistance to antimalarial drugs. As a MalariaGEN Data Fellow, Lucas contributed to MalariaGEN Consortial Projects 1 and 3, and went on to establish a Molecular Biology laboratory within the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC) clinical laboratory facility in Navrongo, Ghana. He used this laboratory during his DPhil research, through which he contributed approximately 500 P. falciparum DNA samples to the MalariaGEN P. falciparum Community Project. With support from the CGGH, Lucas completed his DPhil in May 2013, and has since taken up a post at Navrongo Health Research Centre. He is also a member of the Plasmodium Diversity Network Africa (PDNA).
